Artistic Director
Tenesa Rasmussen is in her fifth year as Artistic Director for Younger Generation Chorus. A choral director and music educator who has trained youth and adult church choirs, middle school, high school, and college ensembles, she has also worked as vocal coach for college musical theater productions. As a former dance educator, she has also created choreography for elementary, college and community musical theater productions, as well as show choir performances.
In addition to choral conducting, Rasmussen has taught music history, music theory, and private voice at the college level. She has performed with Mesquite Civic Chorus, The Classical Chorus of Abilene, and Eveningsong Choir. Currently, Rasmussen is Vocal Tech instructor at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, where she coaches the Lab Singers vocal jazz and The Entertainers musical theater ensembles. Rasmussen is also an Ambassador for Sibelius music software and a Folk Harper.
Mrs. Rasmussen is a Texas educated musician, holding a Bachelors degree in Music Education and a Masters degree in Music History from Southern Methodist University. She studied advanced choral directing with Lloyd Pfautsch and Constantina Tsolainu. Honored as a member of Mu Phi Epsilon music fraternity, Rasmussen served as president of SMU's MENC, and received the prestigious Herbert Turrentine award for excellence in Music History, Thesis. She has published in Southwestern Musician, the journal of TMEA.
Accompanist
Jo-Ying Hong was born in Taiwan and had her first piano lessons at the age of six. Since nine years old, she had conducted and accompanied for the church choir and school choirs. She studied Piano Performance at Tunghai University in Taiwan with Dr. Thomas Linde (Indiana University). She also minored in Flute, Piccolo, and Chinese Lute. She presented three piano recitals during the Junior and Senior years. In 1994, she completed the Master degree in Piano Performance. She also won several awards including the first prize for Solo Instruments, the Graduate Music Award, Graduate Award of Artistic Excellence, and the Graduate Dean’s Award.
From 1995 to 1998 she taught in several elementary school, high school, and colleges in Taiwan. From 2000 to 2006, she taught piano classes at BCC (FL) and accompanied for BCC Concert Choir, Madrigal Ensemble, and the Brevard County Choir. She was invited to the International Music Festival in Miami, FL. She also presented numerous individual concerts. After presenting a piano recital at the King Center for Performing Arts, she was featured in a special column by Florida Today. Florida House of Representative Mike Haridopolos also gave a special recognition to her “Great contribution to the Arts and make Brevard a better place to live.” In 2007, she moved to Frisco with her husband and two lovely daughters. She is looking forward to continue working with other musicians and music lovers in the area.
Student Intern
Hannah Telkamp has been a member of the YG performance choir for 3 years, and has toured with Younger Generation Chorus to Houston in 2007 and Branson in 2006. She was actively involved in her youth group's worship team for a semester in 2006, and has taught herself piano for the past 3 years along with classical guitar for the past year. In the future, Hannah plans to continue in the areas of musical education and performance. This is her first year as an intern and she is excited to be afforded this amazing opportunity.
