2008-2009 Season
The 25th anniversary year of the Younger Generation Chorus certainly is worth celebrating! What better way than to sing at Carnegie Hall and the Cavalry Baptist Church in New York City? At Carnegie Hall, we will be under the direction of Emily Ellsworth and will be singing as part of a National Children’s Festival Chorus. Younger Generation will sing alone at the Calvary Baptist Church under the direction of our very own, Tenessa Rasmussen. We have planned a fantastic time in New York, where we will not only get to sing, but will take this opportunity to tour the city, see a Broadway Play, and take a midnight cruise (Can you believe we won’t get done until 1:30 in the morning?)!
Besides planning this great tour (and fund raising for the tour) we have also been busy with many performances around town. We started our season with the National Anthem for the Town of Murphy Celebration and spread Christmas cheer at Dicken’s Fest in Plano, the LDS church in Allen, and at North Park Mall in Dallas. We helped Habitat for Humanity dedicate a new home to a deserving family and competed in the Sandy Lake Park Funfest (Not only do we get to sing and compete, but we also get to ride the rides and socialize together)! Our final performance before the New York City tour will be at the Custer Road United Methodist Church. CRUMC is paramount in the success of YG since it provides our rehearsal space; to them we are very grateful.
Lucky for us; we also made time to just relax and have fun! We had a wonderful family bowling party and will be having a pizza and arcade party the day after the spring concert! The more stamps we earned the more tokens we’ll get!
A summary of this year would not be complete without thanking the volunteers that make YG a huge success. We have so many that have been very generous of their time. We would especially like to thank Tyler Sundrud, Hannah Telkamp, and Natasha Bhatia for their assistance to Mrs. R. . We would also like to thank Betty Schery for her planning of our New York City trip.
